Install BOM tools add-in in Excel
- Download the “BOM_tools.xla” file.
- Copy “BOM_tools.xlam” to “C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Suplementos”
- Open Excel and click File > Options > Add-Ins.
- Select “BOM_tools.xlam”.
- Click Go.
- Select BOM_Tools and click OK.
Use the BOM tools in Excel
The BOM Tools new tab on the ribbon bar, contains two buttons that:
- Delete BOM Header: click to delete the unwanted header lines (1-11, 13, 14) of the BOM list, before creating the CSV file.
- CSV File Save: asks a filename to save the CSV file (format: comma delimited double quoted values). This format is suitable for exporting the BOM to Arena Solutions webapp (www.arenasolutions.com).
On the Arena webapp:
- Click on the Import button and choose the CSV file.
- Select which Import Columns (CSV) correspond to PartsList Columns (Arena).
- Click Finish.
Orcad CIS BOM settings
You can generate the BOM and then the CSV file in a format allowing direct import to the Arena Solutions webapp (i.e. equal property/column names).
- On Orcad select the design you want to generate the BOM and on the toolbar click on Tools -> Bill of Materials.
- On the “Line Item Definition: Header:” text box, enter: Item Number\tManufacturer No.\tManufacturer\tDescription\tDistributor\tDistributor No.\tQty\tReference Designator\tCost\tDatasheet\tPart Notes\tURL
- On the “Line Item Definition: Combined property string:” text box, enter: {Item}\t{Value}\t\t\t\t\t{Quantity}\t{Reference}\t\t\t\t
- Click on the check box “Open in Excel”.
- Click OK.
- Save the worksheet in .xls or .xlsx format, reopen this file and use BOM Tools to generate the CSV file.

On the Arena webapp:
- Click on the Import button and choose the CSV file.
- Click Finish (no changes are required).
